Creating Prompts

Table of contents

Prompts are interactive report filters or object prompts that allow a user to define the report filtering criteria on the fly using default or specified values, or the set of objects that can be added to a report template. You must be assigned to the Power User role to create, edit or delete a prompt.

Interactive prompts can be defined as optional or compulsory. Prompts you create then display when you run a report. Prompts can be added to the filter section of reports except for Object Prompts which can only be added to the Template (i.e. layout) of the report.

Create a New Prompt

Use the following steps to create a new prompt.

Getting Here: Click Create > New Prompt

The Create Prompt screen displays.

You can create the following types of prompts:

  • Hierarchy Qualification Prompt: Allows users to define an interactive prompt based on the attribute and elements from a hierarchy that is used as a drill path in reports. Once you select an attribute hierarchy, you can navigate through the different attributes and elements that comprise it and select one or more values with which to filter it.
  • Attribute Qualification Prompt: Allows users to apply qualifications to an attribute form.
  • Attribute Element List: Allows users to apply qualifications by choosing an attribute from a list and qualify on the elements of the attribute.
  • Metric Qualification Prompt: Allows users to qualify on a metric by specifying a single metric to use, or a search object to restrict the list of metrics from which you can choose.
  • Object Prompt: Allows users to define an object prompt by specifying a search object or specifying a predefined list of objects to choose from.
  • Value Prompt: Allows users to select a single value on which to qualify, such as a date, a specific number, or a specific text string.

After you select the type of prompt you want to create, you see a screen with four tabs. They are as follows:

  • Definition: Allows you to specify the specific attribute for the prompt you are providing. For example, a hierarchy or attribute.

  • General: Allows you to specify the onscreen title of the prompt, any on-screen instructions, whether the prompt is mandatory, and the number of qualifiers that can be entered in the prompt field.

  • Style: Allows you to specify how the prompt appears, for example the size of the text box, the number of items per column/row, etc.

  • Qualification: Allows you to specify how values are used when qualifying a selection, for example, whether an entered value is assumed to be qualifying or selected, the default operator between multiple conditions, and whether the operator can be changed.
