Differences Between Credit Templates and Discount Rules

Table of contents

Overview

Credits applied to an account via a coupon using a credit template are applied immediately. A credit template calculates the amount of the credit based on the rates in effect when the coupon is placed on the account.

Conversely, credits applied to an account via a coupon using a discount rule are calculated based on the rates in effect at the time of invoicing. Therefore, the credit amount via a coupon using a discount rule will take into account any mid-billing cycle rate changes before issuing the credit.

In addition, a discount rule enables the discounting of a non-subscription offering (one-time order) specifically. You cannot discount a non-subscription offering only via the use of a credit template.
